Who we are
Root and Reins™, LLC was founded by Carrie Tarbox, MA, MS—a seasoned educator, wellness consultant, family herbalist, and homeschooling mother with over 20 years of experience supporting neurodivergent children and families. Her work bridges heart, mind, and body, fostering balance and resilience through compassionate education, somatic and nature-based practices.
Carrie holds advanced degrees in Consciousness Studies and Ayurveda/Holistic Wellness. Her specialized training includes somatic education, herbal therapeutics, and brain chemistry regulation. With a Master’s in Consciousness and Human Potential (focused on meditation, mindfulness, stress response, biology, and physiology) and a Master’s in Ayurveda/Holistic Wellness (clinical use of herbs and essential oils), she teaches nervous system regulation, embodied awareness, and the safe, traditional use of herbs.

Root and Reins reflects Carrie’s commitment to integrating academic rigor with lived experience and practical wisdom. At its heart is a calling to bring peace, resilience, and connection to individuals and families—work continually inspired by her daughter Riley’s equestrian journey and the quiet guidance of the horses alongside her.
Riley Goudy is the heart and hands behind the equine-guided experiences at Root and Reins. A lifelong animal lover and natural with children, Riley grew up immersed in both education and horsemanship. From a young age, she spent countless hours alongside her mother in classroom settings—leading circle times, comforting little ones, and observing how learning and connection grow through rhythm and care.
With over a decade of dedicated equestrian experience, Riley has earned numerous awards and recognitions in riding, training, and competition. Her gentle leadership style and deep respect for the horse–human relationship make her a trusted and beloved guide for young riders, individuals and families alike.
For the past four years, Riley has offered private and group riding instruction, introducing children and adults to the principles of horsemanship, safety, confidence, and empathy through groundwork and mounted lessons. She brings intuitive awareness and patient coaching to each session at Root and Reins (ground work only).
Riley is currently pursuing college coursework in nursing, combining her passions for care, health, and hands-on service. Her presence at Root and Reins reflects the program’s commitment to intergenerational wisdom, compassionate instruction, and joyful learning in partnership with horses.
